Greater Service, Greater Progress

Delta Pi Sigma Alumnae Chapter is kicking off the new Sorority year feeling renewed, refined , and refreshed! We're ready to conquer the communities we serve with tenacity and purpose. Let's move forward in Sigma style - Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service.

Fifty one years ago, a young woman named Georgia Harris had an idea to bring Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. to the campus of Fort Valley State University. The task was not easy, but with the help of the alumnae chapter in Atlanta, Georgia, and regional members, her vision became reality. In 1975, both the Zeta Pi undergraduate chapter and the Delta Pi Sigma Alumnae chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. were chartered at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. Now here we are, fifty one years later, bigger, better, and GREATER than ever! We must thank, our pearl, Soror Georgia Harris, for her vision and continued service to Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was officially incorporated in Indiana on November 12, 1922, and achieved national collegiate status when it received its charter on December 30, 1929, establishing the Alpha chapter. Founded during a time of segregation, Sigma Gamma Rho is unique as the only sorority among the four historically African American sororities that make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) to be established at a predominantly white institution.
